INDIANAPOLIS

Big Games. Your Kind of Sports City.

Colts football. Pacers and Fever basketball. Victory Field baseball. Then the roar of Speedway. Choose your game, find your base and leave room for a little Indianapolis between the tickets.

Know the city. Make the trip yours.

Choose your base, solve the arrival and keep the return simple. Add a second event only when both calendars fit.

City between games: make the pause part of the trip

The game is your anchor. Keep the hours around it flexible enough for a meal, a museum or some time beside the water.

Downtown & Canal

The Canal Walk runs through the Canal and White River State Park district. Build it into a separate city window; the hero is an editorial composite, not a route from the canal to Lucas Oil Stadium. Check the official Canal Walk visitor information for orientation, and leave your venue approach and entry buffer intact.

Choose the table around the ticket

Use Visit Indy’s downtown restaurant guide to choose a meal near your base or actual approach. Check the restaurant’s current hours and reservation arrangements; do not assume a busy pregame dining room will fit a tight entry window.

Museums—or a Speedway visit?

Explore the Canal and White River State Park district for cultural stops. For a racing-history visit, use the IMS museum and tour section and verify museum admission separately from race admission. Speedway still needs its own arrival plan.

Adding a second event? Check both official dates, the finish-to-entry buffer and the return. Run the two-event check →

Two territories. Start with one anchor.

Four covered venues. Choose the event that matters most, then shape the rest of your trip.

Downtown

• Lucas Oil Stadium: Indianapolis Colts and other stadium events.

• Gainbridge Fieldhouse: Indiana Pacers (NBA) and Indiana Fever (WNBA).

• Victory Field: Indianapolis Indians, Triple-A baseball.

Speedway

Indianapolis Motor Speedway: west of downtown.

Choose the exact race and day before planning arrival and departure.

Planning groups, not a map. They do not show routes or distances. This guide covers these four venues; Indianapolis has other sports destinations.

Downtown-led

Fit: Your anchor event is at Lucas Oil Stadium, Gainbridge Fieldhouse or Victory Field.

Tradeoff: A downtown base keeps these venues in one planning territory; each venue still needs its own arrival and access check.

Choose a downtown base

Speedway-led

Fit: An event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the reason for your trip.

Tradeoff: A downtown stay still needs a separate Speedway transfer. Plan for your exact event and day, including the return.

Understand race-day movement

Split trip

Fit: You want both downtown sport and an IMS event, with one fixed anchor.

Tradeoff: Check both dates and actual venues before committing. Extra movement may mean choosing different days or keeping one event.

Test a two-event trip

Let the event choose your base.

A good base supports the trip you are actually taking. Start with the territory, then check the property and the complete journey.

Downtown

Fit: Your main plans are at Lucas Oil Stadium, Gainbridge Fieldhouse or Victory Field.

Tradeoff: Keeps the three venues in one planning territory. Your hotel's location and each final approach still matter; do not assume a short, step-free or indoor walk.

Speedway-oriented

Fit: The IMS event is the anchor and race-day movement comes first.

Tradeoff: Compare it with a downtown stay around the exact race, day and transport plan. Being nearer the Speedway does not establish a usable gate, lot or walk.

Airport area

Fit: A late arrival, early flight or short stop makes airport logistics the priority.

Tradeoff: You still need a journey to downtown or Speedway. Check any hotel shuttle's actual destination, hours and suitability with the property.

For a split trip, choose the non-negotiable event first. There is no single best base for every combination.

Plan the two legs of your arrival

Getting to town is only half the journey.

Airport → base

Compare the airport's current ground-transport options against your arrival time, luggage and party's needs. Then work out the separate trip from your base to the event.

Base → actual venue

For a downtown event, use that venue's own arrival, parking or drop-off information. Your hotel address does not choose a stadium entrance or give you event parking.

An IMS day needs its own plan.

Choose the exact race and day before deciding the final approach. A downtown base still needs a separate Speedway transfer. Check that event's arrival instructions and make a departure plan. An airport journey and a special-event shuttle are different services.

Resolve access requirements with the actual venue or event before committing to a base or mode. A downtown location or a generic map cannot verify the complete journey.

A second game is a bonus, not a guarantee.

Start with the event you would make the trip for. Then test a second event against the real calendar and the complete journey.

• Match the date and the place.Use the right year or season and read the individual event. A home designation alone does not prove the game is in Indianapolis. TBD timing stays unresolved.

• Allow for the whole transition.Think through the first event's finish and exit, the journey between actual venues and the second entry. A listed ending time is not a promise that you will already be on your way.

• Protect the trip home.Check the return journey, especially after an IMS event or before a flight. If the movement is unresolved, consider different days or keep one event.

• Recheck before paying.Confirm event status, attendance and ticket availability, plus the admission and cancellation terms at the actual seller. Check operations again near the event.

Still missing a date, venue or workable return? Keep the second event provisional.

Check the event that is actually on your ticket.
