Indianapolis Motor Speedway visitor guide
INDIANAPOLIS / IMS ARRIVAL
Indianapolis Motor Speedway arrival planner
Choose transport for your exact event and day, then check the lot, stop or drop-off against your permitted gate and seat. Plan the way back before you commit.
Your whole journey needs five answers
Event and dayExact event, edition and visit day, not merely IMS.
Ticket and gateActual seat/area and permitted entry for that ticket.
Transport endpointNamed lot, staging address, permitted drop-off or verified stop.
Outward and returnSeparate current instructions and any boarding or return constraint.
FallbackWhat changes if service, access or event conditions change?
THE MODE DECISION
Choose what you want to control
A car, event shuttle, rideshare and ordinary transit each leave a different piece of the journey to solve. Choose the option whose remaining checks you can actually complete.
01
Drive and park
Fits whenYou need your own vehicle, carry permitted equipment or combine regional stops.
You controlVehicle and starting point.
Still to solveA valid lot for the exact day, the lot’s permitted approach, the remaining walk/roll and vehicle rules. A nearby lot label is not proof of a suitable gate.
The returnFind the separate exit instructions and allow for traffic controls; do not schedule an onward connection from venue distance alone.
02
Event shuttle, if offered
Fits whenYou want to avoid driving near IMS and a verified service fits your base and day.
You controlAn actual purchased entitlement, only after checking the offered service.
Still to solveTravel to the staging address, every passenger’s pass, boarding window, allowed belongings, drop-off-to-seat leg and any access arrangement. Airport-area staging is not proof of terminal pickup.
The returnVerify the final return opportunity and credential. Plan to carry belongings; the sampled Indy 500 FAQ does not permit leaving them on the bus.
03
Taxi or rideshare
Fits whenYou want to avoid parking or use different outward and return modes.
You controlYour booking request and chosen party plan, not an authorized curb or vehicle supply.
Still to solveThe event/day’s actual drop-off and pickup point, remaining walk/roll and reunion point. A map-app pin does not authorize stopping.
The returnCheck pickup separately; allow for uncertain waiting and restrictions. Do not assume the outward location or driver works for return.
04
Ordinary IndyGo service
Fits whenA verified route and return fit your particular date and party.
You controlChoosing a date-appropriate service and a workable backup.
Still to solveRoute 25 names IMS and downtown’s Transit Center, but that does not prove race-day stops. Check schedule version, direction, alerts and the actual stop-to-gate segment.
The returnFind a usable return after your visit; if service or the necessary final segment cannot be verified, choose another confirmed option.
The official Indy 500 and Brickyard pages can retain older operating text beneath newer event branding. Confirm the edition and day before using a route, pickup or shuttle instruction. A past sold-out notice is not current inventory.
WHY PLAN AHEAD
Make room for the day you came for
Sort the meeting point and return now. Then give yourself room to enjoy being there together.

FIND THE MISSING LINK
The address is only the start
Your transport endpoint, permitted gate and seat are three different checks. Use your event’s current map with its lot or transport instructions; one map pin cannot settle all three.
- Identify the endpointUse the named lot on your pass or your mode’s current staging, drop-off or stop instructions. Do not navigate to the venue postal address as a substitute.
- Check the permitted gateOn the correct event/day map, locate the endpoint and the gate allowed by your ticket or credentials. Compare with the official approach instructions; do not infer a crossing from visual closeness.
- Complete the seat journeyCheck the gate-to-seat or viewing-area leg and the help your party needs. If a segment is unresolved, ask the operator before relying on it.
- Solve the return independentlyLocate the actual reunion and vehicle, shuttle or pickup point and check how everyone reaches it. Arrival instructions alone are not an exit plan.
Planning sequence, not a route map. Use the current operator map for your event and day.
Find IMS help for another event’s arrival plan
For another event, find its applicable plan before choosing a mode. If the essential lot, service or gate connection is still unresolved, do not treat that option as ready to use.
ACCESS FIRST
Check the outside journey before relying on help inside
IMS Indy 500 guidance says internal carts do not collect from exterior parking lots. Confirm the full journey to the gate, through entry and to your seat, plus the return, before choosing a distant endpoint.
Outside
Can everyone reach the permitted gate from the actual lot, stop or drop-off with the equipment and support they use?
Inside
What help is available for this event and seat, how is it requested, and what remains for your party to manage?
Return
Can everyone get back to the agreed meeting point and chosen return mode when the visit ends?
A parking placard, ramp-equipped vehicle or hoped-for cart does not complete the journey. Confirm the actual event services and personal arrangements with the operator; no collection or accommodation is guaranteed.
PLAN THE END TOO
The finish is not your departure time
Vehicles can be held while pedestrian traffic clears. A parking pass does not promise quick egress, and a pickup booking does not reserve a venue curb. Keep the onward plan flexible.
OUTWARD
Save the actual approach and entry instructions.
RETURN
Save the separate departure or pickup instructions, last usable service when relevant, return credentials and group meeting point.
- Driving: Separate departure controls and vehicle retrieval.
- Shuttle: Final boarding opportunity, return entitlement and carried belongings.
- Rideshare: Allowed pickup, group reunion and uncertain supply.
- Transit: Correct direction, stop, current alerts and last usable service.
If a flight, second event or reservation only works with an assumed fast exit, change that onward plan or verify another workable arrangement.
READY AT THE BASE
Leave with a usable plan
Save the current instructions and actual credentials, keep your phone charged, and agree where the group will meet. Check changed conditions before setting out.
- Confirm exact event/day, ticket and separate transport entitlement.
- Save the appropriate lot or transport instructions and operator map.
- Check current road/service notices and the independent return.
- Prepare usable digital credentials and charge the phone; do not print digital IMS tickets or passes for admission.
- Agree a meeting point and confirm access arrangements.

Route 25 has a schedule change effective October 11, 2026. Use the version for your travel date and check current alerts.
Check IndyGo’s October 2026 service-change notice
Walking or cycling needs an event-permitted route and a workable return. This page does not establish a downtown cycling route or continuous accessible path. For an organized ride or bicycle rules, check the selected event’s transport guidance.
Planning sources checked October 4, 2026. Recheck your event edition and visit day before travel; older operating text can remain under newer event branding.
YOUR NEXT MOVE
Close the missing link
Have the event and seat fixed? Check the mode you chose. Still changing the visit itself? Return to the IMS guide before committing to transport.
Connect the race day to the rest of the trip
Keep Speedway transport distinct from downtown game-day arrival.
