INDIANAPOLIS / DOWNTOWN ARRIVAL
Downtown game day. Make the arrival work.
For a downtown-led trip, test a downtown base before keeping a car. Choose your transfer, finish the venue-specific last mile, and check the return separately.

THE MODE DECISION
Which trip looks like yours?
A car-free trip can still use taxis or rideshare. Start with your main arrangement, then choose the individual legs that fit.
Downtown, without a car
Fits: A good starting point when your trip centers on these downtown venues.
Watch: Hotel position, bags, weather and walking or rolling needs still matter. Use a vehicle for selected legs when that helps.
Driving in or keeping a rental
Fits: Useful for a wider regional itinerary or when the right vehicle materially improves your trip.
Watch: Compare hotel and event parking separately. A nearby lot is not proof of availability, event validity or usable access.
Park once
Fits: Works when a base or lot permits the full stay you need.
Watch: Check event-use permission, re-entry, after-hours retrieval and both onward and return legs. Otherwise choose event-valid parking.
If access requirements decide your trip, verify the whole chain before choosing a mode.
THE PLANNING ORDER
Getting downtown is one step.
- Choose your entry. Fly into IND or arrive by your regional route. An airport transfer is relevant only if you are flying.
- Set your base or parking destination. Resolve luggage if needed. Driving straight to valid event parking does not require a hotel detour.
- Finish at your selected venue. Lucas Oil Stadium, Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Victory Field have different final-approach instructions.
Route 8 connects the airport with the downtown Transit Center at 201 E. Washington Street. Plan the remaining hotel or venue leg separately.
This is a planning sequence, not a mapped route or an accessibility guarantee. Going to Speedway too? Use the city guide above to revisit your trip shape.
AIRPORT TO BASE
From IND, choose the transfer that fits.
Your bags, flight time, group and access requirements can change the choice.
Route 8 bus
Route 8 is a non-express fixed-route airport connection. Check service for your date and direction, the remaining final leg, and your return before relying on it.
Airport boarding: Ground Transportation Center, Zone 6.

Exact departures, frequency and trip time are not verified here. Construction may affect stops and pedestrian movement. The future Blue Line is not an operating airport service.
Taxi, rideshare or arranged vehicle
Consider a vehicle when bags, a shared group ride or inconvenient flight times make transfers less useful. Check the total fare, passenger and bag capacity, and any required accessible vehicle.
Rideshare and on-airport rental pickup: Ground Transportation Center, Terminal Garage first floor. Taxis: lower terminal curb outside baggage claim.
Check IND vehicle pickup instructions
Downtown event pickup follows separate venue instructions. A vehicle does not remove event-road restrictions or guarantee delivery to the entrance.
Make the full chain work for you.
IndyGo says its buses are ADA accessible. Check the stop, sidewalks, construction crossings, transfers and venue entrance for your own requirements. An ordinary vehicle is not interchangeable with a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
IndyGo Access has eligibility and reservation requirements. Visiting riders should use its advance application process, not plan on it as a same-night fallback.
Settle luggage storage before heading to the event. IndyGo permits luggage with aisles and doors clear; crowding may mean folding or stowing items, or waiting for another bus. That does not provide luggage storage.
WHY THE PLAN MATTERS
Keep the good part of game day.
A little arrival planning leaves more attention for the people and the game you came for.

THE FINAL APPROACH
Same downtown. Three different arrivals.
Check the venue and event on your ticket, then use the operator’s guidance for your arrival point and access requirements.
Lucas Oil Stadium
500 S. Capitol Avenue
Check the event-specific visitor guidance; Colts procedures may differ from other stadium events.
Gainbridge Fieldhouse
125 S. Pennsylvania Street
Use the venue’s parking and accessibility guidance for the final approach.
Victory Field
501 W. Maryland Street
Check the Indians’ visitor guide and the parking rules for the event you are attending.
Before paying for parking: check event validity, entrance, vehicle height, access needs, booking terms, re-entry, retrieval hours and departure constraints. A prepaid space does not promise an instant exit.
THE RETURN TEST
Plan the way back before the game.
- Identify your actual event exit and a usable stop or pickup point.
- Allow for leaving the crowd and reaching that point.
- Check direction, service date and your last usable departure or arranged pickup.
- Choose a fallback you can afford and physically use.
- For a flight, check airline and airport requirements separately. Transit-center building hours are not Route 8 service hours.

A daytime airport connection does not establish a late-night return or an early-flight connection. Recheck service and event instructions close to travel. Research reviewed October 4, 2026; actual trip-day conditions vary.
YOUR NEXT MOVE
Finish the chain.
Know your main mode? Check the venue approach. Still deciding? Compare the options above.
