San Diego Venue Geography & Trolley Planner

San Diego sports travel splits into two primary geographies: Petco Park in Downtown/East Village and Snapdragon Stadium in Mission Valley. That distinction should drive the hotel, airport and event-day transportation plan.

Downtown / East Village: Petco Park

MTS directs Padres riders to 12th & Imperial, Gaslamp Quarter and Park & Market. Blue and Orange Line riders can use 12th & Imperial or Park & Market; Green Line riders can use Gaslamp Quarter. Event service and disruptions should be checked for the actual game.

Mission Valley: Snapdragon Stadium

Stadium Station on the Green Line serves Snapdragon Stadium. From the downtown core, the Green Line provides the important cross-venue connection to Mission Valley without requiring a transfer. Riders coming from other parts of the system may transfer at nodes such as Old Town, 12th & Imperial, Grossmont or El Cajon depending on their origin.

What this means for a sports weekend

  • Petco-only trip: a downtown/East Village base can minimize the game-day movement problem.
  • Snapdragon-only trip: Mission Valley or another Green Line-connected base deserves comparison.
  • Both venues: downtown can preserve a walk/Trolley Petco trip while keeping a direct Green Line chain to Stadium Station.

A direct Green Line ride does not settle the whole journey. Check the hotel-to-station leg, your event’s finish time and the trip back before committing to a base.

Airport handoff

Airport arrival is a separate chain. Route 992 connects SAN with downtown/Santa Fe Depot; the San Diego Flyer connects with Old Town. Both are bus or shuttle connections before rail. The Trolley does not stop at the airport terminals. Compare the two airport approaches.

Verify before you go

Event frequencies, fares, service alerts and temporary construction are volatile. Check current MTS guidance for your event date.
