Petco Park Visiting Fan Guide
Bring your colors into downtown San Diego. Build the day around a walkable base or a checked Trolley trip, leave time to explore the ballpark, and settle the return before first pitch.
Already have tickets? Compare parking and transit.

YOUR GAME-DAY PLAN
Base. Arrival. Ballpark.
Keep the game close
If Padres baseball is the center of the weekend, start with an East Village or nearby downtown base. Compare the actual hotel-to-gate route before paying extra for a “near the stadium” label.
Choose the return, too
Walking removes a parking transaction. Trolley travel replaces the downtown drive with a station-to-gate walk. Driving can fit a wider road trip, but only with a lot and exit plan you have checked.
Give Petco some time
Make room for something beyond finding your seat: a Padres landmark, a local food stop, or a look around before the game. Choose one priority rather than squeezing everything into the first inning.
Arrival framework
Petco Park is in the Downtown/East Village cluster. For a hotel nearby, compare walking with the complete transit journey; a short-looking rail ride still includes reaching the station and your entrance.
MTS directs Green Line riders to Gaslamp Quarter and Blue/Orange riders to 12th & Imperial or Park & Market. Check MTS’s Petco guidance for the current route and event information.
The Padres encourage early arrival, transit and advance parking because event parking is limited. See the official transportation options. If you drive, choose the lot before you navigate; don’t treat the ballpark address as a parking entrance.
A little of their territory
Tony Gwynn Plaza’s commemorative bricks mark milestones in his career. Explore the Padres’ Tony Gwynn Plaza information. You can root for the visitor and still take a minute for the history the home crowd came to celebrate.
Gallagher Square includes the Tony Gwynn Terrace and a playground; public access follows its calendar. Check Gallagher Square before building a non-game visit around it. A neighborhood plan and a ticketed game plan are different things.
The current food guide includes Hodad’s burgers, Puesto tacos and Seaside Market tri-tip nachos. Find the current food options. Pick a target before you wander; your inning-by-inning plans may change once the game gets interesting.

Tickets, entry and accessibility
Open your digital tickets in the MLB Ballpark app before you reach the gate. Use the Padres’ digital-ticket instructions. Check the event, date, section and each member of your party while you still have time to resolve a problem.
Ordinary Padres gates open 90 minutes before first pitch; postseason and special-event times can differ. Pack for the exact event. Review the Padres’ entry policies before leaving your hotel, especially the current bag, food, water and prohibited-item rules. Do not carry an airport-size bag to the gate on the assumption that storage will be available.
Petco is cashless. The official A–Z guide covers payment and other ballpark operations. Bring a usable payment method and make sure your phone will last through the trip home.
For accessibility, choose the seating and assistance you need before finalizing transport. Confirm the full journey from hotel or vehicle to your seat, including the return; a nearby station or accessible parking space alone does not establish that the complete route works for you.
The Padres’ official pages still disagree on shuttle request and pickup details. Confirm your procedure directly with Guest Services through the accessibility guide before travel. This guide does not choose one conflicting instruction or promise a shuttle pickup.
Verify your event, then go
Operational sources checked October 5, 2026. This is a Padres baseball planning guide, not a promise that regular-season arrangements apply to postseason games, concerts or another event. Recheck event timing, entry, accessibility assistance and the last leg home for your date.
Your next move
Choose where you will start and how you will get back. Then leave enough of the day for the reason you came: baseball in somebody else’s city.
