Downtown or Mission Valley? Choose the venue first.
Petco Park sits downtown near the Gaslamp Quarter. Snapdragon Stadium is in Mission Valley. Compare the base and the return for each game; one hotel address does not put both venues in the same walking district.

Between games: give the city a place in the day
A Petco Park day can keep baseball and downtown neighborhood time together. A Snapdragon visit starts with Mission Valley and the trip back to your base. Choose the meal and the final approach together, rather than adding another transfer just before entry.

City & coast: leave room beyond the ticket
Keep an open stretch for a waterfront break, a neighborhood walk or coastal time. Fit it around your actual event and base, with the return journey settled before you head out.
The La Jolla photograph supplies city context, not a route, access guarantee or fixed-time excursion. Choose what your trip can comfortably hold, and keep downtown and Mission Valley as separate event-day decisions. Choose your venue and Trolley plan →

SAN DIEGO · THE WHOLE SPORTS TRIP
San Diego Sports Travel Guide
Take your colors on the road. San Diego is a two-geography sports trip: Petco Park anchors Downtown/East Village; Snapdragon Stadium anchors Mission Valley. Choose the venue mix first, then make the hotel, airport and game-day journeys work together.

Start with the venue mix
- Padres/Petco trip: downtown can reduce game-day movement and preserve walk/Trolley options.Read the Petco Park guide →
- Snapdragon trip: compare Mission Valley with Green Line-connected bases.Read the Snapdragon guide →
- Both venues: downtown can preserve easy Petco access while the Green Line connects the core to Stadium Station without a transfer.
Choose the base that earns its place
Downtown / East Village
Start here when Petco Park is the main event. A suitable hotel can keep the ballpark and downtown time in the same part of the trip. For Snapdragon, check your walk to a Green Line station and the return journey.
Mission Valley
Compare this side of the city when Snapdragon is the priority. Check the actual hotel-to-station trip: a Mission Valley address alone does not establish an easy walk or a convenient ride.
Old Town
Worth comparing when the airport connection and Green Line matter most. Balance that transport access against where you want to spend the hours before and after the game.
Choose the zone before the room. Then check the exact property, total stay cost, parking, accessibility needs and cancellation terms for your dates.
Build the weekend in this order
You came for the game. Leave enough of the weekend to enjoy the city around it.
- Choose the game or venue combination.
- Choose a stay zone from that combination.
- Plan the airport-to-base chain.
- Choose parking, transit or rideshare separately for each event.
- Recheck event-day service and entry rules close to travel.
Make the airport leg fit your base
The Trolley does not stop at SAN’s terminals. Compare Route 992 toward downtown/Santa Fe Depot with the San Diego Flyer to Old Town, where you can connect with the Green Line. Work out the final leg to your hotel before choosing either chain.
MTS and SAN currently show different Route 992 service hours. For an early or late flight, check the date-specific schedule and current terminal pickup information rather than relying on a general hours summary.
Check the plan against your actual game
San Diego’s event operations are not static. MTS can add service for major events; parking inventory, rideshare procedures, accessibility routing and exact schedules can change. Treat the venue and transit operator as the final authority for the date on your ticket.
