Indianapolis Motor Speedway visitor guide
Choose the kind of visit first: the named race, another on-track day, or the museum and a possible tour. The same address does not mean the same admission.
INDIANAPOLIS / What kind of IMS day?
What kind of IMS day?
Match event, edition and day before comparing viewing or transport. Check what the actual ticket admits and what it excludes.
The named race
Fits: This specific race is the trip’s anchor.
Consequence: Confirm edition/day first, then ticketed viewing and access. Do not borrow another configuration or year’s entitlements.
Check the Indianapolis 500 event edition
Check the Sonsio Grand Prix event edition
Another on-track day
Fits: A different officially offered day fits the group’s priorities.
Consequence: Check that day’s schedule, open areas and actual offer. It is not interchangeable with the race itself or guaranteed quiet.
Next: Use the named event links above, then open the schedule and admission details for the exact day.
Museum or tour
Fits: History and a venue introduction lead the visit.
Consequence: Verify museum admission, any event-grounds admission and tour content separately; weather/track activity can change tours.
A race-led visitor starts with the named event, then the correct edition and day. Another officially offered on-track day may fit the group, but it is not the same race experience or a guarantee of quiet grounds.
Event landing pages can combine new branding with old results and operating details. Confirm the actual schedule and ticket terms rather than adopting a banner year as proof that every instruction is current.
INDIANAPOLIS / Choose one experience to build the day around
Choose one experience to build the day around
A race-led trip can make the event the anchor. A history-led visit can put the museum first. Give the chosen experience room in the plan.
Choose one viewing priority and a manageable optional experience. The appeal is being part of a distinctive sporting place, without trying to fit every activation into the day.

INDIANAPOLIS / Viewing choice starts with your needs
Viewing choice starts with your needs
Compare the actual event’s seat or permitted viewing area, steps, ground comfort and room to move. Neither general admission nor a reserved seat proves shade or a complete view.
For the Indy 500, reserved grandstands and first-come general-admission mounds create different choices. A reserved seat gives a known place; general admission asks you to choose an allowed position and accept its ground-comfort and availability limits.
Neither label guarantees shade, a seat back, easy movement or a full circuit view. Check the exact configuration, section and row or allowed viewing area. Do not borrow an oval-seat recommendation for a road-course event.
The Brickyard maps distinguish different days. Use the map for your chosen event and day; do not turn one Friday arrangement into a permanent entitlement.
Resolve accessible seating, parking and services with the Ticket Office before purchasing. Indy 500 access carts operate inside the gates and do not collect from exterior lots. Confirm the whole outside-lot-to-seat-and-back chain instead of assuming the ticket closes every transfer.

Prepare the correct credentials and transfers, then pack for the exact event and ticketed area. A cooler permission for one area does not govern every concert or credentialed zone.
- Prepare the correct digital event ticket and separate parking pass. Use eligible wallet storage for offline access, complete transfers and agree who holds each valid credential. An accepted transfer invalidates the sender’s earlier wallet ticket.
- Do not print digital tickets or digital parking passes for admission. Use the official delivery instructions and help route if access fails. A screenshot or confirmation email is not an assumed substitute.
- Check the exact event and ticketed area before carrying a cooler, chair or equipment. Indy 500 gate regulations distinguish ordinary areas from concert and credentialed restrictions. Old search-visible PDFs do not override current gate authority.
- Oversized travel luggage is a separate storage problem; rejected items are not held at the gates. Prepare payment and allow for screening, with the actual day’s gate time checked separately.
- An add-on or badge has its own admitted days and exclusions. The Silver Badge page excludes race-day access and special parking; verify the current edition rather than treating its name or a pit-lane photo as proof of entitlement.
INDIANAPOLIS / A museum visit is its own plan
A museum visit is its own plan
Museum admission, event grounds access and a track tour are separate checks. Verify the desired day and actual tour content before arranging the visit.
A museum ticket is not race admission, and a race ticket is not museum admission. Event-day access may require both museum and grounds admission. Confirm the products needed for the actual date.
Track tours require museum admission and can change with weather or track activity, including whether a lap is included. A past calendar view does not prove current availability; confirm the desired visit and tour content directly.
INDIANAPOLIS / Plan for the whole day, including the end
Plan for the whole day, including the end
Prepare for noise, sun and movement, agree a meeting point and confirm help requirements. Then match the event and seat to an arrival and return plan.
Plan hearing protection, sun preparation, walking or rolling needs and a group meeting point. Check actual services and equipment arrangements; no quiet seat, shaded route or personal accommodation is promised.
Speedway is separate from the three downtown venues. Select the event and viewing/access plan, then choose the base and arrival together. A downtown stay leaves an IMS leg to solve; a nearby Speedway address does not identify a permitted entrance.
Use the current named event’s planning guidance or contact the operator for another event. Detailed mode, lot, drop-off and departure choices belong in the IMS arrival planner. Do not turn an estimated finish into a guaranteed airport connection.
INDIANAPOLIS / Fix the visit. Then solve the arrival.
