CHICAGO · THE WHOLE TRIP
Choose the airport that fits the whole Chicago trip.
O’Hare joins the CTA Blue Line; Midway joins the Orange Line. Compare the flight, terminal-to-train step, hotel connection and game journey together. A cheaper fare or a closer-looking airport can lose its advantage when the arrival time and luggage plan do not fit.
AIRPORT → BASE → GAME
The hotel is part of the route.
Choose where the bags go, then check how you reach the venue and get back after the event.
TWO AIRPORTS · ONE COMPLETE JOURNEY
Blue or Orange is the start of the comparison.
O’Hare · ORD
Rail connection: CTA Blue Line.
Useful when: the flight and your hotel’s Blue Line connection fit. The Blue Line operates 24 hours, but terminal access, waits and disruptions still matter.
Tradeoff: airport arrival is not arrival at the platform. Terminal 5 needs an airport transfer to the Blue Line access at Terminal 2.
Midway · MDW
Rail connection: CTA Orange Line.
Useful when: the flight works with an Orange Line journey toward the Loop and your onward hotel connection.
Tradeoff: Orange Line service has an overnight gap. Confirm the actual schedule for an early flight or late arrival before choosing a rail-only plan.
Tiebreak: compare the total plan for your own flight time and hotel address. Neither airport is the automatic winner for all four venues.
O’Hare: solve the terminal-to-Blue-Line step.
The CTA station is on the lower level of the main terminal area, reached through Terminal 2. From Terminals 1, 2 and 3, follow airport signs for Trains to City. From Terminal 5, follow the airport’s current Airport Transit System instructions to Terminal 2 for Blue Line access.
Then plan the train and the hotel leg using the actual hotel address. A River North, Gold Coast or North Side stay may still need a transfer or a walk beyond the Blue Line. Do not treat O’Hare’s northwestern location as a direct rail ride to Wrigley.
Midway: protect the Orange Line operating window.
Midway’s Orange Line station connects to the terminal by a walkway. Follow airport signs to the station; keep that terminal-to-platform stage in the plan instead of starting the clock when the plane lands.
Orange trains connect Midway and the Loop, but they do not run through the whole night. Use CTA’s current schedule for the date and hour. If the flight falls outside useful service, compare a current airport-approved road-transfer option, change the arrival plan, or choose a different flight before committing.
TERMINAL → BASE / BAGS → VENUE
Keep all three parts of the journey visible.
ORD ARRIVAL
O’Hare terminal
Reach Blue Line access at Terminal 2; terminal transfer as applicable.
Blue Line → actual base
Use the hotel address to choose the rail stop, any onward connection and the bag drop.
Base → game
Choose the venue branch below. The airport train does not by itself complete a sports journey.
MDW ARRIVAL
Midway terminal
Follow the terminal-to-Orange-Line walkway.
Orange Line → actual base
Check the operating window; plan the Loop/hotel connection and bag drop.
Base → game
Choose a venue branch, preserving its final approach and the return.
NORTH / SOUTH BALLPARK BRANCHES
Your hotel
Locate the useful station, not merely the neighborhood label.
Red Line where it fits
Addison for Wrigley; Sox-35th for Rate. Rate also has the Green Line relationship at 35th-Bronzeville-IIT.
Two separate territories
Wrigley north of the Loop; Rate south. Airport arrival can add a transfer before either ballpark.
LAKEFRONT / WEST-SIDE BRANCHES
Your hotel
Choose the next journey independently of the airport leg.
Different final approaches
Roosevelt Red/Green/Orange for the Soldier Field lakefront stage. Damen Green / Illinois Medical District Blue and Madison corridor for United Center.
Keep the final stage
Soldier Field lies southeast toward Museum Campus; United Center lies west of the Loop. Station access is not gate arrival.
Text equivalent: At O’Hare, reach Blue Line access through Terminal 2, adding the terminal transfer where needed. At Midway, follow the terminal walkway to the Orange Line and check its operating window. For either airport, use the actual hotel address to plan the useful station, any onward connection and the bag drop, or verify another luggage plan. Then plan the venue leg separately. Wrigley is north of the Loop at the Addison Red Line relationship. Rate is south, with Sox-35th Red and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT Green relationships. Airport arrival may add a transfer before either ballpark. For Soldier Field, Roosevelt Red, Green and Orange lead to a separate southeast lakefront stage toward Museum Campus. United Center lies west of the Loop, with distinct Damen Green, Illinois Medical District Blue and Madison-corridor approaches. Keep each final approach and return in the plan. Station access is not gate arrival; this display promises no direct airport-to-gate journey or fixed elapsed time.

Flying in on game day needs a real luggage plan.
If the game is the reason for the flight, an earlier arrival creates room for delays and the city itself. When same-day arrival is necessary, build the plan from landing through the terminal, transport, luggage storage, venue approach and entry. Scheduled landing time is not the time you can leave the airport.
Confirm baggage storage with the hotel or a specific service before relying on it. Do not assume early check-in or that a stadium accepts travel luggage. Read your event’s current bag policy through the venue guide before choosing an airport-to-game plan.
For the trip home, work backward from the airline’s current airport-arrival and bag-drop guidance. Add the hotel-to-airport journey and terminal access. A late event followed by an early flight needs its own plan, particularly if you rely on the Orange Line.
Rail journey estimates cover only part of this chain. This guide deliberately avoids a single airport-to-stadium minute count that would hide transfers, queues and event entry.
Hand the last leg to the right venue.
Once the airport and base chain works, use the venue’s own trip guide for the game-day decisions. Each venue guide picks up the details that change on game day.
Check operations before you book and before you leave.
Recheck the actual address, travel date and departure time. The network relationships here do not promise current service, an open station entrance, an accessible end-to-end journey or a fixed travel time.
Check CTA airport service and schedules
Check CTA service and elevator alerts

NEXT MOVE
Test your flight and hotel as one journey.
Put the airport, actual hotel address and intended travel time into CTA’s planner. Then add the venue and the return as separate legs. Choose the flight only after the chain makes sense.
