ATLANTA · DOWNTOWN · AWAY-GAME BRIEFING
Mercedes-Benz Stadium Visiting Fan Guide
Take your colors to Downtown Atlanta. Start with the event on your ticket: a Falcons game, an Atlanta United match and a stadium concert need different pregame plans. Then settle how you’ll arrive, what you can bring and how you’ll get back. The building is the same. Your game day isn’t.
Start with the event on your ticket
Falcons football
Make room for the pregame if that’s part of your trip. A permitted tailgate can change whether bringing a car makes sense.
Atlanta United
Arrive for the buildup, and check the section before buying a seat if you’ll be wearing another team’s colors.
Concert or major event
Use the exact event page for the seating layout, gate time and entry instructions. Football or MLS routines aren’t a universal template.

Downtown is the starting point
Mercedes-Benz Stadium belongs to Atlanta’s Downtown sports trip. Don’t choose a base merely because the listing says “Atlanta”: decide where you want the rest of the weekend to happen, then test the actual hotel-to-stadium journey.
For a wider sports weekend, keep the separate Cumberland/Truist Park leg in the plan. A useful Downtown base is a whole-trip decision, not a promise that every venue is nearby.
Set the arrival, then forget the car debate
The stadium names SEC District as its preferred MARTA stop, with Vine City another nearby rail option. Compare transit first if your base connects well; driving still has a case when your origin, equipment or group needs favor it.
Pick the return journey too. A ride to the stadium is only half a plan. Check event parking, pickup arrangements and any shuttle against the date you’re attending, rather than committing from an old screenshot.

Atlanta United: watch for the Golden Spike
Appreciate the ritual. Keep your allegiance.
Atlanta United’s Golden Spike gives the buildup a ritual worth arriving for. Players and supporters sign the spike; selected supporters carry it toward the home end before a guest hammers it into the platform. Give the buildup a place in your arrival plan, then check the current match timeline.
The club’s current matchday rules prohibit non-Atlanta United team apparel in the Supporter Section, including other clubs and national teams. If you’re taking your own colors on the road, choose your section accordingly.

Football: decide whether the tailgate is the destination
The Home Depot Backyard is part of the stadium’s tailgating offer. If you’re organizing one, confirm that your event and space permit it, then plan equipment and the return to the car. If you just want to see the buildup, don’t assume you need to buy parking to enjoy a football weekend.

Entry: sort the small things before the big game
The stadium’s current bag policy allows clear bags up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches and small non-clear bags up to 4.5 × 6.5 inches. Check the full policy for exceptions and your event’s own instructions before packing. Store flight luggage before heading to the stadium.
Open the right digital ticket before you leave. Check your gate and section, and have a payment method ready. The stadium’s A–Z guide prohibits leaving and re-entering on the same ticket, so finish outside plans before going through security.
Inside: find your seat, then explore
Work out your section first, especially for a concert layout. Use the stadium’s vendor directory to see food locations and current menus, then leave enough time to get back for the start. Let the home crowd supply the soundtrack; you’ve brought your own reason to cheer.

Accessibility needs a complete journey
Confirm the whole trip: transport or parking, the approach to the gate, seating and the return. The stadium lists accessible parking and assistance; availability and shuttle operation can vary by event. Ask for the arrangement you need before choosing a mode.

After the final whistle
Agree on a meeting point and a backup before separating. Check the stadium’s exit guidance against your actual mode, and use current instructions and staff direction for the final approach to a train, parking lot or pickup. Don’t make a tight onward connection depend on clearing the crowd at a fixed speed.
