Two cities. Five venues. Make the trip yours.

Choose the right area before the arrival plan

Keep downtown Minneapolis, downtown St. Paul and the Allianz Field area separate in your plan. A shared regional network does not make every venue a downtown walk. Open the Venue Geography & Transit Planner →

Flying in? Connect the airport arrival to the base first, then to the venue. MSP Airport Sports Trip →

Between games: make the host cities part of the trip

Let the venue area shape the pregame. A Minneapolis game, a downtown St. Paul arena night and an Allianz Field visit can each support a different neighborhood plan. Choose the meal and the final approach together so neither gets squeezed into the last minute.

For a cross-city weekend, give the transfer time a place before adding another stop. Pick food and neighborhood plans for your dates and preferences, then keep the trip back to your base clear. Choose your Twin Cities base →

City time & outdoors: leave room beyond the ticket

Save an open stretch for a riverside break, a park visit or a neighborhood you want to explore. Decide what fits the base and actual event times, rather than treating both cities as one compact downtown.

For a weekend with more than one game, make the pairings work first. A spare afternoon is useful trip time; it does not need another transfer just to fill it. Build your multi-game weekend →

Minneapolis–St. Paul Sports Travel Guide

A Twin Cities sports trip works best when you treat Minneapolis, Saint Paul and the Green-Line-connected Midway branch as distinct nodes in one regional system. Choose the venue first, then the base and airport chain that fit that geography.

Start with the venue node

  • Downtown Minneapolis: U.S. Bank Stadium, Target Field and Target Center create the densest three-venue branch.
  • Downtown Saint Paul: Grand Casino Arena (formerly Xcel Energy Center) is a separate downtown destination and should not be treated as if it were in Minneapolis.
  • Midway: Allianz Field sits on the regional rail corridor between the two downtowns and creates its own base and arrival tradeoffs.

Choose a base before a hotel

Downtown Minneapolis is the strongest default comparison for a Minneapolis-heavy itinerary, but a Saint Paul-heavy trip can rationally shift the base east. A Green-Line-connected location can also work when the itinerary spans both cities. The lodging guide makes that territorial decision before property selection.

MSP Airport has a direct rail starting point

METRO Blue Line trains currently serve both MSP terminals and continue toward Downtown Minneapolis. Airport rail between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 is free and operates around the clock. That makes rail a legitimate first branch for many Minneapolis-based trips, while Saint Paul or venue-specific plans can require an additional transfer or a different ground-transport choice.

Build multi-game weekends around transfers

The Twin Cities offer strong multi-game potential, but the useful question is not simply whether two events fit on a calendar. Pair the events, choose the base that minimizes the harder transfer, and preserve enough buffer for the Minneapolis↔Saint Paul or Midway movement involved.

Verify before you go: transit schedules, construction, fares, parking and rideshare operations, entry/security and exact event times are publication-window or event-day facts.
