Start with the right stadium

Reliant Stadium is the current name of the Texans’ home, previously called NRG Stadium. The Texans say the Reliant name returned in August 2026. The street address remains 1 NRG Parkway, Houston. Searching either name should bring you to the same football stadium, not two different venues. Official stadium information

The football complex sits away from Houston’s downtown baseball and basketball district. Choose the shape of your Texans day before choosing a hotel or buying a parking pass. A downtown base can make sense for a longer city weekend; it adds a stadium journey. A stadium-area hotel puts you on the football side of town, but proximity alone does not settle the walk through the park perimeter.

A city weekend with football

Start with a Downtown or Medical Center base near a useful Red Line station. This fits a visitor traveling light who wants meals and city time around the game. Plan the station walk and return service before committing to a late evening. The train gets you to Stadium Park/Astrodome, not directly to your seat.

A tailgate-centered game day

Start with the correct stadium lot and vehicle pass. A cooler, tent and cooking setup change the journey: driving may serve the day better than taking equipment on transit. Coordinate your group’s game or tailgate tickets separately from the parking pass, and decide who handles the return drive.

Football first, with less city travel

Compare a stadium-area hotel with a Medical Center base. Check the actual pedestrian entrance or rail connection rather than the distance to a stadium pin. Hotel parking, a medical shuttle and a room key do not automatically provide game parking, a stadium shuttle or access through a private gate.

Build your day around kickoff

Before you travel

Confirm the event, date and kickoff on the Texans’ official schedule. Open your mobile tickets, check your ticket’s entry and seating details, and settle the outward and return journeys. If driving, use the purchased lot’s instructions instead of navigating only to the stadium address.

Before you enter

Choose between a meal, organized tailgating and the team’s pregame activities. Treat security and the final walk as part of the trip. For a first visit, a sensible aim is to be seated for introductions rather than arriving at the property at kickoff. The team says introductions begin around 15 minutes before kickoff and describes the SWARM chant and raised H gesture as part of the entrance. Rep H-Town

Use the selected game’s arrival notice for door times. Current official pages give different general opening intervals, so a universal countdown would be misleading. Check Know Before You Go before leaving your base.

After the final whistle

Know whether you are returning north toward the Medical Center and Downtown, south to a car at Fannin South, or to a stadium lot. Keep your group together through the first decision point and check the train destination before boarding. Leave extra flexibility after a night game, overtime or an event with a larger-than-usual exit crowd.

Three ways to arrive

Lot-by-street directions, pickup caveats and full transport research

Getting to Reliant Stadium: rail, parking or rideshare

Take the Red Line when your base already fits it

METRO identifies Stadium Park/Astrodome as the Red Line stop for the park. From Downtown or the Medical Center, the stadium-bound direction is southbound. Green and Purple Line riders need a Downtown connection to Red. Fannin South lies one stop beyond Stadium Park/Astrodome. METRO’s venue guide

The ordinary rail fare is $1.25 per boarding; each rider needs a valid fare. Two separately charged trips total $2.50 per person before any origin parking or other travel. Check the current payment and transfer rules rather than assuming one card covers the whole group. METRORail fares and riding information

Rail is an attractive starting choice for a visitor staying near a useful station without tailgate equipment. Compare the whole journey: hotel-to-station walk, wait, train, station-to-entry approach and screening. Do not compare just the train ride with someone else’s full drive-to-seat time.

The final approach across the complex still matters. Follow current signs and your event’s permitted entry instructions. This guide does not supply a measured platform-to-gate walking time or certify a continuous step-free route.

Fannin South is a park-and-rail choice

Drivers who do not need their vehicle at a tailgate can compare stadium parking with Fannin South Park & Ride at 1604 West Bellfort Avenue. METRO currently lists special-event parking at $25–50, with stated round-trip rail wristbands for vehicle occupants. Check the selected event’s fee and bundle conditions. Its ordinary parking price is not a game-day quote. METRO parking information

The comparison is per vehicle versus your actual stadium pass, not simply $1.25 versus a parking fee. Include the drive to Fannin, boarding and the remaining stadium approach. On return, take the train toward Fannin South, not the northbound train used by Downtown visitors.

Do not assume every suburban Park & Ride lot offers a useful Sunday or late-night game connection. Fannin’s rail connection is different from the commuter-bus network. Check the actual route and service day before parking.

Drive to the lot on your pass

The Texans’ current directions associate Main Street with Green, Yellow and Purple lots; Kirby with Blue and Red; and Fannin with Maroon and Orange. The published general opening rule is four hours before kickoff, with Platinum five hours before. Check your selected game and pass for changes. A vehicle pass does not replace each visitor’s required game or tailgate admission. Texans parking directions

Buy the lot that serves your plan, then follow its entry approach. After the game, attendants may direct vehicles onto a different exit than the one used on arrival. Avoid promising yourself a fixed clearance time or a tight airport connection. Current traffic guidance

Arrange pickup around the actual game instructions

Official Texans sources identify Yellow Lot 35 off Main Street for rideshare and pickup, but differ on the Gate 16A/16B suffix. Check the current game notice and signed pickup location before requesting the car. Do not rely on a saved generic stadium pin, and do not expect immediate pickup or a fixed fare after the game. Stadium pickup guidance

Make the return decision before the game

For Downtown and the Medical Center, look for the northbound Red Line journey. For Fannin South parking, use southbound. Check your stop-specific last usable service and any onward connection on the event date. A line running late somewhere on its route is not proof that your complete journey is available after the final whistle.

For an evening kickoff, agree on a backup before entering: how the group will regroup, which mode remains practical if the game runs late, and where everyone is ultimately heading. Additional event trains do not mean unlimited service.

Choosing seats: understand the football layout

Field level, 101–140: consider the lower bowl when closeness to the players and the immediate game atmosphere matter most. A sideline position and an end-zone position give different perspectives. Before buying a very low row, investigate the actual view rather than assuming that lower always means clearer.

The 300 level mixes Club and Mezzanine: the official Club plan covers 301–318 and 329–346. The Mezzanine plan covers 319–328 and 347–356. Do not buy a 300-level ticket assuming it automatically includes a particular lounge, meal or premium entrance. The exact ticket product controls its benefits.

Loge and Gridiron: the ticket map identifies 501–552 as the 500-level Loge tier and 601–652 as Gridiron seating. These higher positions are worth comparing if a broader view of formations matters more than closeness. Actual price and value depend on the game and listing, not the level label alone.

Separate premium products: Directors Club uses CLB717–CLB726, and Chairman’s Club CLB743–CLB752. Their memberships do not grant Texas Children’s Club or West Club access. The current Club page also identifies Brazos and Tejas party suites at 348 and 355, illustrating why a section number alone cannot prove every entitlement. Official Club seating information

Watch the two meanings of “Loge.” The 2026 H-Town Loge premium seating product is described as Club Level seating. It is separate from the ordinary 500-tier Loge label on the seating map. Read the package’s inclusions before comparing it with a standard ticket. Premium hospitality

Choice advice

Match the meal to kickoff. A noon opening is not a noon-game pregame lunch.

Bring a card or mobile payment. Check the current concession guide before crossing the stadium.

Confirm significant dietary needs with the venue in advance; do not treat a menu label as an allergy guarantee.

Pappasito’s: South Loop

Full Tex-Mex planning advice

Fajitas on the football side of town

Pappasito’s Cantina, 2515 S Loop W, is the South Loop location to consider for a Tex-Mex meal around a Texans visit. Its current hours are 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday–Saturday. An 11 a.m. opening leaves little room for a relaxed sit-down meal before a noon kickoff, so it fits more naturally before a later game or as a separately planned meal. Location, menu and hours

The restaurant markets its stadium proximity. That does not establish a measured walk to your permitted entrance or permission to leave a car while attending the game. Check both separately.

Capt. Benny’s: South Main

Full seafood planning advice

A South Main seafood alternative

Capt. Benny’s, 8506 South Main Street, offers a Gulf/Cajun-style seafood option on this side of Houston. Its location page lists Sunday opening at noon, so it is not a pregame lunch answer for a noon kickoff. Consider it around a later game or another part of the trip, then confirm the day’s hours and your stadium transfer. South Main location information

Rice Village is a separate dining outing, not the stadium’s concourse. For more neighborhood choices, use the Houston Dining guide. Do not build a postgame meal around a business’s advertised closing time without checking when the kitchen stops taking orders.

Check the Texans app’s current concession guide before crossing the stadium for a particular item. For a seated drink stop, the official guide identifies Bud Light Lounge on the north field-level concourse and Bud Light Cantina on the southwest field level. Premium food and lounges depend on the purchased product. Concessions and merchandise

Bring a card or mobile payment for food, beverages and merchandise. For a consequential dietary need, contact the venue ahead of time instead of treating a menu label as an allergy guarantee.

Explore Houston

Choose one city outing that fits your hotel base, timing and energy.

Leave room in the plan: a second game depends on the actual home schedules, not an assumed weekend pairing. Neither airport has rail at its terminal, so plan that transfer separately.

Extra time, second-game cautions and airport planning

Football can anchor the trip without filling every hour. Choose one other outing that fits your hotel area and energy: a museum district visit, a Downtown meal or a deliberately planned city day. Avoid turning a distant attraction into a rushed stop immediately before entry.

Start with the Houston Things to Do guide and choose rather than stacking everything into one day. If flying, use the Houston transport guide’s airport section to compare the flight, hotel and full transfer. Neither airport has a rail station at its terminal, so keep the airport leg separate from the stadium rail decision.

A second game is a possibility to investigate, not an assumed weekend fixture. Verify actual home schedules before booking around the Astros, Rockets or another team. Public stadium-tour availability was not confirmed for this guide, so do not make a tour essential without checking directly with the venue.

Your final plan should answer four things: which ticket, where you are staying, how you reach the permitted entrance, and how you get back. Once those fit together, leave some room to enjoy Houston.

Continue planning your Houston sports trip

Before you go

Tailgate timing

General lots open four hours before kickoff; Platinum five. After the game, current rules call for packing up after 30 minutes and lot closure after one hour. Check the selected game and pass.

Tailgate rules and pregame activities

Tailgating and the pregame experience

If tailgating is the reason for driving, organize it before reaching the lot. Texans rules require a parking pass for each occupied parking space and require tents and chairs to be put away before entering. Begin packing up after the game in time for the lot’s closing rules; the team’s current guidance calls for packing up 30 minutes after the game and closure one hour after it. Overnight parking is not part of the plan. Tailgate guidelines

For a visitor without a hosted tailgate, the team’s own pregame areas give you something more concrete to plan around than hoping to join a private group. The family guide places the BULLevard activities between the stadium and Astrodome, with Kid’s Corner and TD Zone activities listed from 2½ hours before kickoff until 30 minutes before. Check the game’s program and leave time to reach your seat.

Come for the football and take part at your own pace. Wear your visiting colors, respect other groups’ space and ask before joining a tailgate. A ticket to the game is not an invitation to someone’s private setup.

Families & accessibility

Children two and older need a ticket; under-two lap entry is allowed for Texans games. Wheelchair assistance runs between gates and seats, not parking lots. Arrange the whole approach before arrival.

Family and accessibility planning

Families and accessibility: settle the details early

The Texans’ family guide permits children under two to enter free on an adult’s lap; children two and older need a ticket. Check other events separately. It identifies a nursing space and sensory room near Section 133, sensory bags through Guest Experience, and stroller check subject to available storage. Clear-bag-compliant baby supplies are the simplest starting point; medically necessary items receive separate screening. Family Gameday Guide

Think beyond the seat when planning with children or someone who needs support. The approach, standing in line, concourse movement and departure can be as important as the football. Choose the pace and amount of pregame activity for your group rather than filling every available hour.

For accessible parking, the team requires a valid placard or plate plus a prepaid parking pass, with spaces first come, first served. Accessible drop-off guidance identifies Kirby/Westridge and Kirby/McNee. Confirm your event’s current instructions and ticket arrangements in advance. Wheelchair assistance operates between ticket gates and seats, not between the parking lot and the stadium. This distinction matters if the outdoor approach is the hard part of the visit. Accessibility guide

Ask the venue about the exact seating, companion, mobility, hearing, sensory or other support needed. Do not assume a hotel’s accessible room, an accessible rail vehicle and a stadium elevator automatically establish a continuous usable journey between them. For immediate help on the day, ask staff for Guest Experience; use current signs rather than an old amenities map.

Bags & entry

One clear bag up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches or a one-gallon clear freezer bag. A 4.5 × 6.5-inch clutch may accompany it; medical exceptions require inspection. Have the mobile ticket ready. No re-entry.

Check current bag policy →

Entry checklist: bags, tickets and weather

  • Have the mobile ticket ready. Open it before leaving your base and make sure everyone arriving separately has what they need. Carry enough phone charge for entry and the journey home.
  • Pack a compliant bag. The Texans policy permits one clear bag up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches or a one-gallon clear freezer bag. A small clutch no larger than 4.5 × 6.5 inches may accompany one permitted clear bag. Medical exceptions require inspection. Current bag policy
  • Plan food and drink before packing. Outside food and drinks are generally prohibited at Texans games. If a dietary restriction requires bringing your own, contact the venue in advance using its accessibility guide. Formula, breast pumps and nursing equipment, including a small milk cooler, are permitted after screening. Accessibility guide
  • Check easily missed prohibited items. Battery-powered fans, seat cushions and selfie sticks appear on the current prohibited list. Compact umbrellas that fit beneath a seat are permitted. Read the full list before packing. Prohibited items
  • Use the correct entrance for your ticket. Main stadium corners are Xfinity northwest, Kroger northeast, Phillips 66 southeast and Ford southwest. Premium side entrances have ticket restrictions; a nearby entrance is not automatically your entrance.
  • Finish outside plans before scanning in. The Texans’ A–Z guide states no re-entry. Do not plan to return to a car or restaurant and then resume the game.
  • Prepare for the outdoor part of the day. Roof status is announced around two hours before kickoff, but that does not remove exposure on plazas, lots and approaches. Check the forecast and the team’s roof update. Stadium A–Z guide
