BOSTON · NORTH STATION · AWAY-GAME BRIEFING

TD Garden Visiting Fan Guide

Build the evening around North Station, check the rules for your event and arrive with time to look up. The Celtics and Bruins give the same building two different sporting lives. Wear the visiting jersey if that’s your assignment. You can appreciate the rafters without cheering for the home team.

The station is part of the arena trip

TD Garden shares its location with North Station. Green and Orange Line subway service and northside commuter rail make this a strong transit-first comparison. Fenway is a different Boston neighborhood trip; Foxborough is a separate journey altogether.

Choose your Boston base around the whole trip

Choose the arrival that gets you home, too

Subway

Use North Station on the Green or Orange Line. From the Red Line, change at Park Street; from the Blue Line, change at Government Center for a northbound Green train serving North Station.

Commuter rail

Northside lines arrive at North Station. A train into South Station does not. Check the correct Boston terminal and the return timetable before choosing commuter rail.

Car

North Station Garage sits beneath the arena. If driving fits your group, compare the event’s parking terms and the route out before booking; close parking does not promise a fast exit.

North Station is the hub; your ticket decides the entrance

The MBTA passageway links the commuter-rail and subway stations beneath Causeway Street. Once there, use the arena’s entrance map and the instructions attached to your event. A train platform, the station concourse and a ticketed arena entrance are different steps.

The bag rule deserves its own check

TD Garden discourages bags. Permitted small bags must be no larger than 6 × 4 × 1.5 inches, including clear bags. Medical, diaper and breast-pump bag exceptions have screening requirements. Check any accommodation with the venue before arrival.

Read the current bag and prohibited-item rules

Leave day-trip luggage at your base. If you need storage, verify the arena’s current Event Bag Check location, hours and fee; do not assume storage is available at any entrance. Re-entry is prohibited.

All events use mobile tickets. Open your actual ticket before joining the entry queue and follow the issuer’s instructions for your event.

One building, two home crowds

For Celtics basketball, give yourself time to see the court and the banners before tipoff. For Bruins hockey, build in the same pause before the puck drops. Boston has put a lot of sporting memory above your head; looking at it does not count as surrender.

For a concert, switch mental maps. Use that show’s seating plan, door time and any general-admission instructions rather than carrying over a basketball or hockey routine.

Make the history part of the trip

The arena opened in 1995 and is home to the Celtics and Bruins. The names in the rafters reach further back than this building. A visiting fan can respect that history and still spend the evening hoping to spoil the result.

Read the arena’s history

If Bruins history is part of your visit, Heritage Hall has interactive exhibits and artifacts on the second-floor concourse. Check the separate pregame or Sports Museum visiting arrangements before treating it as included with a game ticket.

Eat with a plan for the tipoff or puck drop

Decide whether dinner happens before security or inside. The current concessions guide can be filtered by level and food type; it also lists value-menu locations. Check the listing for your visit, then pick an option near the part of the building you can access.

Accessibility: arrange the whole arrival

The venue lists accessible entry at the Hub on Causeway, elevators beside its escalators and Elevator 1 inside North Station. Pre-arranged wheelchair or walking escort requests are due 72 hours before the event; the venue also explains what to do on arrival if that window has passed.

Confirm seating, the station or vehicle approach, assistance and the return together. Check MBTA elevator alerts on the day rather than assuming a station connection proves an uninterrupted step-free route.

After the buzzer: check the direction, not the crowd

For subway travel, save the destination and any transfer you need. For commuter rail, save your train and the time you need to reach it. Make the plan before the event so the whole group is making the same exit.

TD Garden currently identifies Merrimac Street as the rideshare pickup/drop-off area from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Follow the active app location and staff instructions rather than requesting a car at the arena door.

Check current rideshare guidance

Flying in or out? Put your base and luggage into the route. An airport-to-arena shortcut is not necessarily the right plan for the whole day.
