Rate Field

South Side baseball. Your kind of Chicago.

Come for the White Sox. Make room for a South Side meal, a ballpark lap and a game that gets your full attention.

Know the place

A Chicago story worth the trip.

The current ballpark opened in 1991 across from old Comiskey Park. It hosted the 2003 All-Star Game. That South Side baseball story is the reason to give this trip its own identity—not treat it as a second Wrigley visit.

The essentials

Start with the right building.

Address: 333 W. 35th Street

Next decision: choose your seat, your base and the journey back before booking the rest.

This page uses the current Rate Field name. Older photographs retain their original dates and branding; proposed future ballparks do not change the destination printed on your current ticket.

For the fans who go.

Make a night of South Side baseball.

A neighborhood meal, time at the ballpark and the game itself are three good reasons to avoid rushing straight from a car seat to your stadium seat.

Choose the experience, not just a section number.

Seats with a plan.

The notes below help you compare perspectives. Use the official chart and the exact ticket’s section, row, access and view notes before buying.

Lower bowl

Compare an infield view with the outfield experience. Decide whether following the whole game or being close to one part of the action matters more.

Check: Check the specific section, row and ticket access; proximity alone does not describe the view.

Upper level

A higher perspective is worth comparing when you want to follow the shape of the game.

Check: Balance elevation and distance with stairs, aisle access and your group’s comfort.

Club or premium

Compare the complete experience rather than assuming every upgraded ticket has the same food or access.

Check: Read the exact inclusions before paying for a package.

The hours around the game

Come hungry. Go South Side.

Ricobene’s

252 W. 26th Street

A breaded steak sandwich or pizza gives the day a specific South Side food stop. Make it a deliberate part of the route; it is not a concession stand at the ballpark.

Eating inside

The current concessions list includes a Cuban Hoagie at section 148. Club-level dining requires the appropriate ticket. Check the live menu before planning around a particular stand.

Choose the base that fits the return

Two stays to compare.

These are specific location-based starting points, not a price ranking. Compare the full stay, airport connection and post-event trip for your dates.

Compare this south-of-downtown base if the Sox are the main event. Check the exact hotel-to-station leg rather than assuming a neighborhood label makes the journey direct.

Arrive with the whole route in mind.

For a downtown CTA trip, take the Red Line toward 95th/Dan Ryan to Sox–35th, then go west to the ballpark. The Green Line’s 35th–Bronzeville–IIT and Metra’s 35th Street “Lou” Jones are separate stops. Compare your entire route.

The game ends. The trip doesn’t.

Know the way back.

Check the Red Line toward Howard for a downtown return. Metra users should save the actual departure and an alternative. Drivers should allow for the lot exit as well as the road journey.

For Green/Pink journeys, check the current bridge-work notice and service/elevator alerts. Include your final walk and exact venue entrance; a station diagram is not an accessible-route guarantee.

Keep the gate simple.

Pack for this event.

Save the mobile ticket before leaving the hotel. Check the team’s current bag, gate, re-entry and accessibility guidance for the game; don’t carry a day’s luggage to the turnstiles.

Relative sequence. Your actual date.

Make the event day yours.

  1. Before the gameChoose Ricobene’s if you want a neighborhood meal, or leave that time for the ballpark food you want to try. Trace the onward leg before committing to either.
  2. At the parkArrive with room for entry and a look around the areas your ticket permits. Find your section before the game becomes the main event.
  3. After the final outUse the return you chose in advance. Keep a dinner or transport backup flexible rather than tying it to a promised finishing time.
